An amber engine management light means the car’s computer has logged a fault that needs looking at soon — you can usually drive gently to a garage, but don’t ignore it for weeks. If it’s solid amber and the car drives normally, drive gently and book it in soon. If it’s flashing or red, or the car has lost power, pull over and call us — driving on can wreck the catalytic converter or worse.
